Councillor reported missing

Thoubal, October 20 2019: Whereabouts of a male Councillor of ward no 8, Yairipok Municipal Council reportedly remains traceless after he went for some personal work at a bank in Yairipok yesterday.

A missing report was filed at Yairipok Police Station by his family member today as they were not able to find him in all places.

The missing Councillor has been identified as Konjengbam Ito Singh (58) s/o (L) K Angou of Yairipok Kekru Makha Gwarok Leikai.

According to the family members, the Councillor went out from home at around 11 am yesterday for some personal work at Manipur Rural Bank in Yairipok bazar riding his yellow DIO scooter, however, he never returned home till now.

His wife Konjengbam (o) Premlata Devi filed a missing report at Yairipok PS at 8.30 am today as they did not have any information of his whereabouts.

In connection with his disappearance, a sit-in protest was also staged at Kekru Makha Meira Paibi Shanglen by the public of the area including the Meira paibis with the demand to find the Councillor Ito by the concerned authority at the earliest.

Speaking to the media persons on the sideline of the sit-in protest, his wife Premlata said that her husband stepped out of home at around 11 am yesterday to withdraw old aged pension from Manipur Rural Bank in Yairipok with some elders.

Later, the said elders informed that her husband was abducted by some unknown persons on way to the bank, she added and said that the family members immediately started searching for his whereabouts but they were not able to find him.

They were also not able to contact the Councillor as his mobile phone is switched off, continued the Conucillor's wife and appeal all to inform and help her in finding her husband.

The protestors also raised their voices condemning the abduction of the Councillor and demanded immediate release of the Councillor and appeal the persons involved in the abduction to stop intimidating of public.

Mention may be made that Councillor Ito left his previous party and joint BJP along with 4 other Councillors.
