Lamka, August 20:
In a blatant display of the finest art the society has offered to its children in this militant infested State of ours, a handful of students from a very prestigious institution here directed their mates to turn back from the school, evidently taking the rules into their own hands.
Alarmed by the growing recklessness of the students, and an immediate outcome of the alarming coup like seige of the students, Kuki Students' Organisation, Churachandpur today issued an 'academic code' for the students.
Handing over the academic codes, the KSO leaders said the students of today have crossed their limits and their behaviour unbecoming of being a student.
So, in its endeavour to bring the students back on the right track, KSO said students, parents and school authorities should see to it that every student from Higher Secondary school downward conform to their eight listed codes.
Of the codes, prohibition of carrying mobile phones and using of motor vehicle which are driven by the students them, are the long standing wishes of parents and teachers alike, but they did not enforce it.
While barring the kids from taking the rule into their hands by advising them to take their grievances to the institution concerned or the student organizations concerned in case the matter goes out of hands, KSO advised the students to listen to their elders.
The direction to cut their hair short, avoid stylish hairs and bracelets, bangles or ear ring except for customary practices to the boys, and, adherence to using English, tucking of shirt and proper tie to and fro between home and school seem to be a pure prerogative of the student union in the bid to restore the academic atmosphere.
Asserting that a close vigil shall be maintained on the students and academic institutions, the KSO said explanation will be demanded from the institutions whose students were caught cracking the codes.
It is worth mentioning that a student from a private institution here, some years back had even served a demand notice through a fictitious name and group.
The authenticity and lack of expertise in writing the note raised suspicion, leading to exposing the entire affair.
Often a student or group of students threatening a principal and even their Principals also surfaces.
Factional brawls or rather, gang brawl among the juvenile students has in the past went offcourse on many occasion and in some cases it even claims the lives of the kids involved.
