Imphal, September 14, 2009:
Transport services connecting the hill districts of Manipur with Imphal as well as those plying to other States remained off the road for the second day today due to the 48-hour chakka bandh called from Sunday by All Tribal Disable Union, Manipur (ATDUM) demanding reservation of quota in Govt jobs for its members, reports NNN.
The usually crowded Churachandpur bus parking at Keishampat and the Senapati bus parking at Khoyathong wore deserted looks as no buses could be seen parked to ferry passengers to the two districts.
Reservation of 3 pc quota in Government appointment have been demanded by ATDUM under sections 33 and 36 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act 1995, especially in regard to the recruitment of candidates for the posts of supervisor in ICDS, and in the recruitment of statistical assistant, lower divisional clerks (LDC) and grade IV in the Social Welfare department, Manipur.
Legal action against the Government would be taken up if it does not respond to the demands of ATDUM, warned Momo Tantanga, president of ATDUM in a press conference on Saturday.
