Imphal, September 14, 2009:
The state Cabinet has decided to appoint at least 400 doctors to make up the shortage of Medical Officers.
A meeting of the state cabinet held today at the conference hall at the Chief Minister's secretariat took the decision.
Chief Minister O Ibobi took the chair at the meeting.
Reliable sources said, the cabinet meeting also decided to appoint nurses and other paramedical personnel.
However, it is not known exactly how many personnel will be appointed.
The decision has been made necessary as complaints of shortage of doctors and nurses at the Primary Health Centres and Primary Health Sub-Centres located at the remote areas in the hill districts have been received continously, the sources said.
In order to implement the resolutions adopted by the cabinet at today's meeting, the government will submit relevant reports to the 13th Finance Commission.
The appointment of the doctors, nurses and paramedical staffs will be made through the Manipur Public Service Commission.
It may be worth recalling here that the state cabinet had at its last meeting resolved to establish some PHSCs at different places in the hill districts.
Today's decision was a follow up of the discussion at the earlier cabinet meeting.
