Imphal, November 13:
BJP National secretary and Thangmeiband A/C MLA Meinam Bhorot has expressed apprehension whether the State Government intends abolish Tharon village at Cheiraoching and uproot the people from their homesteads all in the name of implementing Imphal Capitol Project.
Talking to media persons, Bhorot said that although the proposal for setting up the Capitol Project is welcome and appreciable, any move to dislocate the people from their village, which been existing since Manipur was an independent kingdom would be very unfortunate.
The ongoing eviction drive being carried out by the Government at the villages situated along the side of Langol range like Tharon, Tarung, etc with such indifferent attitude to the plight of the people, smacks of a conspiracy to uproot these villages, Bhorot said.
If 44 households out of the existing 54 households in Tharon village , were declared as encroachers and evicted them from the village, even the name of the village would not remain, he contended.
Setting aside the legal aspect of the whole thing, Bhorot opined, the most appropriate steps that should be taken up by the Government would to rehabilitate the displaced people instead of leaving them in the lurch, he noted .
Asking the Government where all these displaced people would stay, Bhorot further contended that it would be wrong to consider the so-called encroachers living in Tharon and Tailing villages like other encroachers.
