As there is restriction on large gathering, this year's observation of "The Great June Uprising Day, Unity Day" at Kekrupat will be scaled down significantly.
The statement was made by Sunil Karam, chairman of the observation committee of the "19th The Great June Uprising Day, Unity Day", which was formed today at the office of the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) at Kwakeithel today.
Speaking to media persons today, Sunil Karam appealed all local clubs to observe the day while adhering to guideline norms issued by the State in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The committee also urged all communities to keep alien forces at bay and contribute in ushering in a peaceful and progressive State.
Considering the ongoing situation, the State level observation of the historic day at Kekrupat will be slightly different, said Sunil Karam who is also the president of United Committee Manipur (UCM) .
The significant movement of June 18 (2001) will be commemorated in full spirit though the observation will be small, he said while lauding the courage of thousands of people who came out together against the infamous "Bangkok Declaration" .
The observation programme will be conducted with strict adherence to safety norms and guidelines issued by the State, he continued.
He further said that floral tributes to 18 persons who made the supreme sacrifice for the cause of the territorial integrity of the State apart from presentation of songs in honour of the late souls, will be the highlight of the programme which will be aired on local TV channels.
Vice chairman of the observation committee and president of AMUCO, Nando Luwang, on the other hand expressed regret that the observation of such a significant day will be held on a smaller scale this year due to COVID-19 .
