Troops of Tengnoupal Battalion of Pallel Sector, Assam Rifles under aegis of HQ IGAR (South) seized WIN cigarettes and contraband items worth lakhs during checking at their mobile vehicle check post along National Highway 102, said a release of PRO Assam Rifles.
"In the prevailing situation due to COVID-19, Assam Rifles has been able to prevent supply of products from across the borders in local markets thereby preventing the spread of the pandemic.
Strict implementation of curfew orders and vigilant screening of vehicles and persons has resulted in preventing the illegal trade of unauthorized items in the black market," the release said.
The seized items along with the carrier vehicle and detained persons have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station, it added.
Meanwhile, troops of Moreh Battalion have recovered a huge quantity of essential goods being ferried towards Myanmar on June 8, the release said.
The troops deployed at Haolenphai and Govajang recovered the items stockpiled inside thick vegetation along Indo-Myanmar border with an intent to ferry the consignment towards Myanmar side in the dark of night, the release said.
The approximate cost of the recovered items is estimated to be in lakhs, it said.
The items seized by the troops of Moreh Battalion have been handed over to authorities for further legal action, it added.
