Many in line for R-Day awards and citations

Imphal, January 25 2015: The list of 967 security personnel who will be decorated at this year's Republic Day celebration have been announced.

25 security personnel will receive President's Police Medal for Gallantry, 132 personnel will get Police Medal for Gallantry, 98 personnel will receive President's Medal for Distinguished Service and 712 will receive Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

For act of exceptional courage and professionalism, Corporal Momocha Ningthoujam has been awarded the Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) .

Corporal Momocha Ningthoujam of the Indian Air Force (Security) is posted as a Special Forces operative and responsible for operations and training in an Air Force Garud Commando unit.

He was one of the operatives inducted to undertake rescue operations in the flood affected areas of J&K.

On September 8 last year, while undertaking rescue and evacuation operation in Srinagar, Corporal Momocha was winched down on a conical roof top of a house.

From this precarious position he started evacuating civilians.

When he had hardly evacuated three to four people he noticed that the adjacent three storeyed building was collapsing and there were some civilians stranded in it and were desperately asking for help.

He sought permission to go to the house for rescuing them which was initially denied considering the direct threat to his life.

However, after hearing the persisted pleas of Cpl Momocha, the Captain of the helicopter granted permission for him to move in.

The brave air warrior was immediately winched down, went inside the semi-submerged house and rescued all four trapped civilians to the roof top.

He carried one paralyzed old lady and two very small kids on his shoulder to reach the winching spot.

While winching up was in progress, the house started collapsing under the force of swirling water.

Disregarding the threat to his life, he managed to evacuate all of them from the precarious and dangerous situation.

Corporal Momocha displayed courage of the highest order while rendering selfless service to the Nation, said a press release issued by PIB.

Colonel Nameirakpam Romeo Singh of 2nd Bn Rajput Regiment has also been named for the Sena Medal (Devotion to duty) while Rifleman Takhellambam Gokil Singh will be posthumously awarded the Sena Medal for Gallantry.

Romeo has already been awarded with COAS commendation cards twice, GOC-in-C commendation cards twice and Force Commander's commendation card in United Nations Mission in Sudan.

He is the son of Late Nameirakpam Chaoba Singh and Late Nameirakpam (O) Tampha, conveyed a press release issued by PIB (DW) .

Imphal West Commando Officer-in-charge Potsangbam Sanjoy and CID (Security) Constable Khamzamung Guite have been awarded the Police Medals for Gallantry on the occasion of the Republic Day 2015 .

Imphal West Inspector Soraisham Khomdon has been conferred the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

Manipur Police officers and personnel selected for the Police Medal for Meritorious Service are Inspector General (Adm) Christopher Doungel, 1st Bn MR Havildar Thok-chom Bharatchandra, Ins- pector (CID-SB) Tong-bram Sanatomba, Rifleman (MPTC Pangei) Mangjathang Haokip, Havildar (MPTC Pangei) Yumnam Manglemjao, Imphal West Constable Laishram Khamba, Imphal East Sub-Inspector Thongam Nilamani, 8th Bn MR Subedar TS Chamna Anal and Assistant Sub-Inspector (CID-SB) Ningombam Dilip.

Moreover, Manipur Fire Service driver Sounminthang Helthang Thangjom and Fireman Akoijam Ibotombi have been awarded the President's Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service.

OC P Sanjoy (6th BAR to PMG) who has been conferred the Police Medal for Gallantry joined Manipur Police as Sub-Inspector in 2000.He was promoted to the rank of Inspector in 2009 .

He underwent commando training course and normal police training in Punjab before completing a tactical course in NEPA.

He has been already decorated with the DGP Manipur Commendation Car.

Sanjoy was earlier conferred the GOC-in-Chief, Eastern Command Commendation Disc three times.
