Dy CM Gaikhangam calls for strengthening Vety & AH Dept

Conceding that Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department is one of the most vital government departments, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also holds the portfolio of Home called upon staffs of the department to put in joint efforts so as to facilitate its services for the people.
The Dy CM was speaking as the chef guest during the Free Animal Health Campaign and distribution of rabbit under Establishment of Mini Angora Rabbit Farm organized by Director of veterinary & Animal Husbandry Services at its complex at Sanjenthong, Imphal West today.
Gaikhangam said that Directorate of Information & Public Relation (DIPR) and veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department are the two most important government departments but people are unaware of the importance and responsibility shouldered by the two departments.

Admitting that budget fund for DIPR which acts as a messenger between the government and people is too low thereby affecting proper functioning of the department, he asserted that Chief Minister has been already urged to strengthen the department by adopting all means.
The CM has been also apprised of the need to increase budget fund for Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department to enhance its services, the Dy CM added.
Saying that there will be adverse affect on human health if rearing animals are kept under unhygienic condition, he stressed the need for further consolidating veterinary department for maintaining healthy condition of livestock.
The Dy CM hailed staffs of the department for coming up with various measures from time to time despite facing shortage of fund and manpower.
Govindas Konthoujam, Minister of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry and Commerce & Industries who was present at the occasion as president said that efforts are on to avail facilities for staffs of the department who have not received promotion since their joining in the department.
The department is now equipped with Regular Officers who were recruited through MPSC by holding DPC after a gap of 15 years, he added.
Maintaining that the Free Animal Health Camp was organized with an eye on keeping health of livestock fit throughout the year, the Minister appealed to the beneficiaries selected from the training programme conducted by the department for distribution of Angora rabbit to rear the animal under healthy condition.
He exuded confidence that rearing of Angora rabbit would facilitate livelihood of the beneficiaries apart from enhancing economy of the State.
15 Angora rabbit, three 50 kgs and a sum of Rs 10, 000 for construction of cage shed for rabbit was handed over to each of the 10 beneficiaries selected from Bishnupur and Churachandpur district during the function which was also attended by Dr Saidokhum Jonte, Director of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Services as guest of honor.
