PM set to visit Myanmar in last week of May

Imphal, May 16 2012:
The ongoing international trade between India and Myanmar at border town Moreh will be assessed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Adviser TKA Nair prior to the former's visit to the neighbouring country in the last week of this month.
In this regard, TKA Nair would arrive at Imphal for a two-day State visit on May 18, said an official source.
He would be accompanied by the Director General of Foreign Trade, PMO Director and officials of MHA, BRO and DONER, it added.
The source further said that TKA Nair would not only inspect the State trade insfrastructure at Moreh but also interact with the traders at Moreh and Tamu.
He would also hold a meeting with State Government officials at Imphal, it added.
TKA Nair will also visit Mizoram.

Forty items are listed in the trade list between India and Myanmar.
On the other hand, the State is seeking permission from the Centre to include teak under the trade items which would enable export of teak to the neighbouring country through Manipur.
Prior to Manmohan Singh's visit, a technical team had already surveyed the road conditions of Myanmar in connection with the introduction of Imphal-Mandalay bus.
During Prime Minister's visit, the two countries are likely to ink an agreement to set up border haats at Tumom and Somra of Manipur.
