COVID-19 death toll touches 78

Even as three more died of COVID-19 during the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 78, the Health Department claimed that the State's COVID-19 positivity rate is below the National average.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, three women died at Churachandpur district hospital, RIMS and JNIMS during the last 24 hours.
The two women who died at Churachandpur district hospital and JNIMS were 80 years old while the third victim who succumbed to the virus at RIMS was 62 years old.
The press release pointed out that the State's positivity rate is 4.76 per cent against the National average of 7.5 per cent.
It went on to claim that there is no sign as yet of COVID-19 going out of control in the State.
Out of 1,35,000 rapid antigen test kits purchased so far, 95 per cent has been utilised in public and private health facilities.
Further, an order for 50,000 more rapid antigen test kits has been sent and the consignment is likely to arrive at Imphal in the next couple of days, according to the spokesman.
In the meantime, 135 persons including 10 personnel of CAPF were tested positive for the contagion during the last 24 hours at RIMS, JNIMS, Senapati, Thoubal, Raj Medicity, Chandel, Shija Hospital, Noney, Bishnupur, Advance Hospital, Mothers Care, Samaritan Hospital, RD Wing, Tamenglong, Jivan Hospital, Asian Hospital, Babina Diagnostics, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal.
Of the 125 civilians who have been tested positive, 33 belong to Imphal West, 45 to Imphal East, three to Kakching, three to Chura-chandpur, one to Kang- pokpi, two to Tengnoupal, four to Bishnupur, three to Senapati, two to Ukhrul, six to Noney, 10 to Thoubal, four to Chandel, eight to Tamenglong and one to Kamjong.
Except for one, none of them has any significant history of travelling outside the State.
On the other hand, 148 people have been discharged during the last 24 hours from home isolation (4), JNIMS (1), RIMS (5), CCC UNACCO (36), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (16), RD Wing (28), CCC Tamenglong (15), CCC Kamjong (1), CCC Kasom Khullen (3), Sadbhavna Mandap (3), CCC Lanva (1), CCC Noney (1), CCC Moreh (2), CCC Ukhrul (1), CCC Chandel (7), CCC Lamding Wangjing (9) and CCC Thoubal (9) .
The total number of positive cases has reached 12,240 (general population 9767, Central security personnel 2473).It includes 2680 active cases (general population 2302, Central security personnel 378) and 9482 discharged cases (general population 7390, Central security personnel 2092) .
The recovery rate is 77.46 per cent.
A late report informed that out of 565 samples tested today at JNIMS, 83 were found infected by the virus.
