Minister notes Ukhrul's seri potential

Calling upon the Mahila Congress members to contribute their mite in the judicious implemen-tation of various welfare programmes including the recently enacted Food Security Bill, Commerce and Industries Mi-nister Govindas Konthoujam pledged to launch sericulture-based projects in Ukhrul district.
Speaking as the chief guest at the joint workshop of Mahila Congress of Ukhrul and Chingai blocks held today at Hotel Imphal, Govindas reminded the Ma-hila Congress members that their role in the nation building process is inevitable as implementation of development projects launched by the UPA Government needs constant monitoring at the grass- roots level so as to ensure the targeted section of the society reap the project benefits.
Noting that climatic conditions of Ukhrul district is highly suitable to undertake sericulture projects and stres-sing on setting up food pro- cessing units for maximum benefit to the local populace, Govindas, also the MPCC in-charge of Ukhrul, exuded confidence that a proposal to provide hand book on sericul-ture would further boost seri- culture products in the hill district.

Confiding that unity among the general public would be able to foil all disruptive agenda of subversive elements, the Minister further desired that local entrepreneurs prepare themselves for the Look East Policy benefits as allowing outsiders to capitalise on the trade opportuni- ties would be meaningless for Manipur being the focal point of the international trade policy.
As guest of honour Depu-ty Speaker and Chingai AC MLA MK Preshow Shimray said despite faced with various hurdles womenfolk should be prepared to take pro-active role in putting the society in the right path.
Regretting that women and children continue to bear the brunt of various social ills such as domestic violence and human trafficking, Shimray said one of the most effective tools to tackle the menace would be education of the girl child.
With regard to the role of Mahila Congress members, he suggested that they maintain strict vigil on whether or not educational programmes are being implemented in an effective manner at the grassroots level.
The workshop attended by a number of Congress workers, besides members of the two blocks, was held with Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress president RK Ranisana Devi as the functional president.
The workshop also served as an event for mass enrolment and reconstitution of Mahila office bearers and executive committee members of Ukhrul and Chingai block Congress Committees.
