Monetary aid extended to injured journalists

Imphal, November 26 2021: Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan extended financial assistance to sports correspondent of Ichel Express Yensembam Samarjit who is currently receiving treatment following a road accident.

The financial assistance was handed over to Y Samarjit at his residence in Heirangoithong Jaganath Achouba Leirak by Kh Joykisan today.

Speaking to the media after handing over the financial assistance, Kh Joykisan said road accidents are very common amongst media persons as they return very late from their work.

What initiatives have been taken up to prevent such road accidents needs to be discussed and the Government should also ensure that the CCTV cameras are functional at all important crossroads and junctions.

The people who was/were involved in the accident might have fled the scene for fear of mob justice but as the situation has calmed down, they should come forth and extend assistance to the accident victim, he added.

If they don't want to directly contact the victim, they can do so through the office of Ichel Express or All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU), he added.

Mention may be made that Y Samarjit had met the accident and injured his right leg at Khagempali Huidrom Leikai on the night of September 12 while returning from work.

On the other hand, retired Addl Chief Engineer of Electricity Department, Govt of Manipur and intending candidate of Khurai AC, Khagokpam Khamba has provided monetary assistance to senior reporter Thokchom Rocky who had been injured in a road accident on November 15 .

Kh Khamba expressed hope that his assistance would prove to be helpful in the recovery of Th Rocky.

Further, Kh Khamba lauded Th Rocky stating that the press and media in general provide an invaluable service to the State and its people and prayed for his speedy recovery.
