Preventive steps against Ebola : Visiting Japanese woman put in isolation ward

Imphal, October 05 2014 : A woman Japanese tourist has been confined in the isolation ward of JNIMS after she showed symptoms of high fever on the suspicion that she might be Ebola infected.

The State Government has been, in the meantime, putting in place all possible preventive measures to thwart off Ebola in the border State.

The Japanese came to Imphal from Myanmar through Moreh.

She suddenly showed symptoms of high fever at Classic Hotel yesterday subsequent upon which health workers took her to the JNIMS isolation ward, informed a high ranking officer of Family Welfare and the National Health Mission.

The Japanese tourist has been identified as Kawkubo (27).She arrived here on October 3 through Singapore and Mandalay.

Even as blood sample of the Japanese tourist has been collected, no courier service providers accepted the sample to send it to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for necessary test, today being Sunday, conveyed the official.

The tourist's blood sample tested at Raj Medicity for malaria turned out to be negative.

Measurement of body temperature of the Japanese woman this morning showed signs of returning to normal.

Nevertheless, her health condition is being monitored at the isolation ward.

Due information has been passed to the top ranking officials of the relevant State and Central authorities.

Some of the common symptoms of Ebola are rhinitis, drooling and high fever.

The disease can be communicated even through s haking hands.

In order to prevent transmission or outbreak of the disease in the State, Ebola screening check gates have already been opened at Mao, Moreh, Jiribam and Tulihal Airport.

Moreover, necessary kits have also been procured.

One individual from Iram Siphai who returned from Congo recently after a UN Peacekeeping Mission is being monitored by health workers.

Moreover, the State Government has decided to make Ebola test compulsory for army and paramilitary forces moving in convoys in and out of the State.
