Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Private Limited (SHRI) has successfully performed its first-ever cadaveric kidney transplantation in Manipur on 2nd August 2023.Informing that the ground breaking operation marked a pivotal moment in the history of healthcare in Manipur, offering hope to patients in need of life-saving organ transplants, a SHRI release issued by its Business Development deputy manager Takhellambam Premkumar said: "In a profound display of generosity, the family of the deceased, Sarungbam Kennedy Singh, Imphal West, chose to donate his kidneys.
This selfless act gave the gift of life to two individuals.
One kidney was transplanted into a patient at Shija Hospitals while the other found its new home in a patient at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal".
The wife of recipient of the kidney at SHRI, expressed that they are deeply indebted to the donor's family for their extraordinary gesture, which has breathed new life into different individuals and sown the seeds of a lasting legacy.
The patient's condition improved after the transplantation and he was discharged from the hospital on August 21, 2023, the release conveyed, adding that Shija Hospitals has successfully completed 91 kidney transplantations including 90 living-donor kidney transplantations by the renal transplant team at Shija Kidney Center including the first ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation and first kidney transplant of an international patient in NE India.
The hospital provides comprehensive treatment for all types of kidney disorders and is equipped with state-of-the-art dialysis technologies like CRRT, SLED, etc., with 41 dialysis machines.
The centre also provides total stone solutions under one roof, it maintained.
The family's extraordinary decision to honour their loved one's memory through organ donation has not only saved lives but also ignited a beacon of hope that will continue to shine for years to come.
