Haipou Jadonang remembered on his 92nd death anniversary

Haipou Jadonang Death Anniversary Committee observed the 92nd Death Anniversary of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang under the aegis of Zeliangrong Union (AMN) at Haipou Jadonang Memorial Park, Keishampat, here on Tuesday at 7.30 am.
Due to the prevailing law and order situation in the state, no mega public function was held unlike previous years with Tuesday's tribute event limited to paying of floral tribute and homage to the departed leader.
Former Union minister Meijin-glung Kamei, HAC chairman Diganglung Gangmei, ZU president Azang Rongmei, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi and others joined in paying of floral tributes at the statue of Haipou Jadonang.
Sangaiprou Kabui Youth Organisation also observed the 92nd Martyrdom Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang at Sangaiprou Kabui village.
Paying of floral tributes to the portrait of Haipou Jadonang along with performing the traditional Kabui rituals including 'Yupan Thaba' and observing a two-minute silence in memory of the late freedom fighter marked the observance.
In Noney district, the commemorative function was held widely as Martyr's Day in all the Zeliangrong inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.
At his birth place, Puiluan (Kambiron) village in Noney district, Haipou Jadonang Memorial Trust observed the day as Martyr's Day at Jadonang memorial community hall, wherein rich floral tributes were paid.
A cultural programme was also performed while life history of Haipou Jadonang was narrated by various speakers.
The Martyr's Day was also observed at Longmai bazar market shed at Noney.
Organised by Longmai Lungrian and Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) in collaboration with various civil society organisations, floral tributes were paid to the portrait of the freedom fighter while a drawing competition for the students was conducted as part of the programme attended by Rongmei Customary Court, Manipur chairman Thuankubui Pamei as chief guest.
Lighting of candle at every door step as a mark of respect and honour to the departed leader marked the day in the evening in every household of Zeliangrong.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles along with Zeliangrong tribe and civil administration also came together to commemorate the death anniversary of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang at Khoupum Valley, Sankhomei village (Senapati) and Tamenglong district headquarters on Tuesday.
The events witnessed an overwhelming participation of individuals from Zeliangrong tribe including men, women and students who gathered to pay homage and remember the life and contributions of the visionary leader.
As part of observance, various activities were organised at Gaidimjang, Khoupum Valley such as wreath laying ceremony, women's volleyball match, men's football match, Tug of war and a medical camp organised by a team of doctors from Noney-based Assam Rifles.
The observance functions at Sankhomei and Senapati included paying of tribute to the freedom fighter followed by a cultural event while in Tamenglong a painting competition was organised for the local students on the theme of Haipou Jadonang.
Zeliangrong Students' Union Longmai Area (ZSULA) also observed the 92nd Haipou Jadonang Martyrs' Day with offering of floral tributes to the portrait of the visionary freedom fighter and lighting candles in the evening.
Our Senapati correspondent informed that 92nd Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang Malangmei was observed at the multi-purpose hall, Senapati district headquarters.
The observance organised by Zeliangrong Union, Senapati Zone was attended by Zeliangrong Union, Senapati Zone president Ng Luikang and 16 AR Maram CO Col Aditya Deo.
Speaking as chief guest at the function, Ng Luikang reminded the gathering that Haipou Jadonang stood for the causes of the people against the British rule and he challenged British rule.
He urged Zeliangrong community to pay respect and honour the late freedom fighter whose legacy still lives on.
In his address, Col Aditya Deo said that Haipou Jadonang was not only a freedom fighter but also a social reformer, spiritual leader and political resistance who challenged the mighty British Empire.
Meanwhile, Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak Phom observed the 92nd Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang at TRC headquarters, Chingmeirong, Imphal East while Zeliangrong United Committee, Manipur Valley observed the 92nd Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang at its liaison office, Kakhulong, Imphal.
On the other hand, Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) observed the 92nd Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang at Chuangphun village in Kangpokpi district.
The observance function was attended by chiefs and 'Khullakpas', chairmen and members of village authorities.
Leaders of Zeliangrong Youth Front and students' union, women leaders and village leaders also attended the function which was marked by paying of floral tributes and silent observance.
