Imphal, January 28 2022: A resolution has been taken to use Meetei Mayek in place of Bengali script in all newspapers published in Manipur from January 15, 2023 .

As per a press release issued by Monitoring Committee, Meetei Mayek Implementation (MC, MMI), the decision was taken during a joint meeting of MEELAL, AMWJU and EGM presided by AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shyamjai at Manipur Press Club.

During the meeting, it was also decided to gradually increase Meetei Mayek content in every Manipuri newspaper from February 1, 2022 so as to avoid any inconvenience of abrupt changes.

The statement further asked the media houses to publish a countdown as a reminder of the change to be effected from January 15, 2023 .

The meeting also reappointed Huirem Loikhomba as convenor of MC, MMI for another term.

The date for replacing Bengali script with Meetei Mayek was earlier fixed on February 5, 2022 .
