The soil testing constructed at Lamphelpat for Imphal West district by the Department of Agriculture was inaugurated today by Agriculture Minister N Loken.
Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function, N Loken while noting that agriculture is the foundation of all civilization, denounced interference in the Department of Agriculture which is working to produce food abundantly free from all elements harmful to health.
As long as there is undue interference and deterring factors towards the agriculture sector, the State can never move forward, asserted the Minister.
Stressing on the importance of keeping soil healthy and controlling acidity level, Loken assured that a proper action will be formulated so that soil testing laboratories can be used purposefully and effectively.
Starting from the current fiscal, the Department of Agriculture will take up some concrete and tangible initiatives to bring about green revolution in the State by creating model villages in all the districts in terms of utilising modern and scientific methods of cultivation, he stated.
In her presidential speech, Director of Agriculture Department RK Nayansana observed that the soil testing laboratories built at Wangbal, Mantripukhri and Lamphelpat would be of immense help to the farmers of the State.
Moreover, these laboratories would be able to help in maintaining the soil of the State's agricultural fields healthy and fertile, she said.
Besides testing acidity of soil, the laboratory at Lamphelpat has adequate equipment for various other tests regarding the components of soil.
