Imphal, November 03 2026: Assam Rifles Polo Team-A defeated X-Polo Club, Wangkhei, 5-3 in a thrilling final today to lift the trophy of the 39th N Hazari and Dr N Tombi State Polo Tournament at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung.

The 37-team tournament was organised by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association (MHRPA) .

Assam Rifles Polo Team-A maintained a steady lead throughout the closely contested four-chukker match.

They opened the scoring in the first chukker to lead 1-0 and extended it to 2-1 by the end of the second.

X-Polo Club fought back resiliently, but Assam Rifles kept their noses ahead at 3-2 in the third chukker before wrapping up the victory with a 5-3 finish in the final chukker.

Kh Shushilo was the star performer for Assam Rifles-A, hammering home a hat-trick with goals in the 1st chukker (5:40) and the 4th chukker (0:18 and 3:21).Teammate M Kuber chipped in with two crucial goals, scoring in the 2nd chukker (1:04) and the 3rd chukker (2:28) .

For X-Polo Club, Th Jacob scored twice, once in the 1st chukker (0:19) and another in the 4th chukker (1:38), while L Atangba pulled one back in the 3rd chukker (2:20) .

The champions, Assam Rifles Polo Team-A, walked away with a cash prize of Rs 50,000, while runners-up X-Polo Club received Rs 40,000 .

Additionally, M Chaoba of Luwangpokpa PC was honored as the Young Rising Polo Star, receiving a cash prize of Rs 10,000 .

The closing and prize distribution ceremony was graced by Govindas Konthoujam, Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS); N Bedajeet, Technical Chairman of MHRPA; L Nabachandra, Director of Manipur Fire Services; and Dr RK Rashbihari, Managing Director of Rajmoni Hospital.
