State League: AFC, NEROCA, NESU, NACO win

Imphal, April 29 2024: Athletics Football Club (AFC), NEROCA FC, North Eastern Sporting Union (NESU) and Nambulmapal Athletic & Cultural Organisation (NACO) defeated their respective opponents in Monday's matches of the 16th Manipur State League 2023-24.AFC thrashed United Brothers (UB) FC 3-0 at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong to top the table in Group A with 12 points.

Loyangamba Meitei Akoijam scored the AFC opener in the 26th minute, while Laishram Roshan Singh (60th) doubled the lead and captain Nongmaithem Sushilkumar Singh (90+4th) sealed the comfortable victory.

In another match at same venue, NEROCA FC beat Sang gai Football School (SFS) 2-1 riding on goals from Wahengbam Amekar (14th) and penalty conversion by captain Laishram Suraj Singh (30th).SFS reduced the loss margin through Naorem Rohijit Singh (90+5th) .

At DSA Ground, Kakching, NESU edged out Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) 2-1 to top the chart in Group B with 13 points.

After a goalless first half, Phijam Sanathoi Meetei (55th) opened the score for NESU but the lead lasted barely 10 minutes as Rishi Nongthombam (63rd) restored parity.

However, Khundom Umakanta Singh ensured maximum points for NESU with the match winner in the 64th minute.

At the same venue, NACO defeated Young Physiques Union (YPHU) 1-0 in another match with Sekhar Tensub-am Meetei (54th) netting the all-important goal.
