Jr Boys' NFC Tier 2: Manipur kick off campaign with 7-0 thrashing of Himachal

Imphal, September 24 2023: Ngangom Dhakesh-wor Singh scored a double as Manipur thumped Himachal Pradesh 7-0 in their campaign opener in the Tier 2 group stage of the Junior Boys' National Football Championship for Dr BC Roy Trophy 2023-24 on Sunday at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

The state boys took 12 minutes to open their goal count through Laishram Suraj Singh and they went on to double their lead in the 17th minute with Samuel Salam on target.

Then two more goals were added in the space of eight minutes when team captain Thangjam Majaibungo Singh made his effort count in the 26th minute before Thuin-ganing Awungshi made it 4-0 in the 34th minute.

Manipur's fifth goal came in the 35th minute via an own goal by Himachal's Thakur Abhiraj Daloch.

Then Ngangom Dhakeshwor found the sixth goal in the 42nd minute before he netted his second goal in the 71st minute to wrap up the victory.

The state boys will next face Andhra Pradesh on September 26.The Junior Boys' National Football Championship for BC Roy Trophy Tier 2 sees 21 teams divided into four groups with the group winners progressing to the semifinals.

Manipur are placed in Group A along with Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh.
