Colourful start to 'Oorja' football talent hunt tournament

Manipur Governor Dr Najma A Heptulla kick-started 'Oorja'-CAPFU-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament 2017 for boys and girls yesterday at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium amidst much fanfare and jubilation.
The ten day football extravaganza which will see the best teams vying for the top spot in Manipur, is being organized by 9 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis oflGAR(S).
Dr Najma A Heptulla, Governor of Manipur graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest while Yumnam Joykumar Singh, Deputy Chief Minister, Manipur and Letpao Haokip, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports were the guests of honour.
Addressing the audience, Governor Dr Najma Heptulla encouraged the children and also appreciated the efforts put in by the Assam Rifles.
According to a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S), Maj Gen Virendra Singh, VSM, IG AR(S) emphasized the commitment of Assam Rifles towards maintaining peace and stability in the region concomitant with the populace of Manipur.
He reiterated the importance of sports towards development of youth in the State and expressed his happiness and honour to be hosts of such an exceptional sports event which will mark the beginning of a glorious future for football in the State.
The event witnessed an excellent march past by the football players, marching in sync with the resonating beats of the drums and saluting smartly as they passed the dais.
The inaugural match was played between the girls teams, namely, Eastern Sporting Union (ESU) and Kangchup Road Young Physical and Sports Association (KRYPHSA) .
KRYPHSA won the match against ESU by 4-0 .
A cultural programme including Pipe Band Display and Dog Show left the audience enthralled.
In today's matches, NYTHC defeated KV Langjing (girls) by 30 -0, Bishnupur Club (boys) defeated KV Lamphel by 15-0, YWC (L) defeated KV Lamphel (girls) by 39-0 and Imphal (W) District Football Team defeated CCPur District Football Team (girls) by 2-0, Imphal (E) Club defeated KV Langjing (boys) by 23-0.Thoubal Club and Ccpur football team were tied 2-2 .
