Veteran Cricket Tournament : NAPSA, Model Club share spoils after thrilling tie

Imphal, December 11 2023: NAPSA squandered their chance to open their Group A campaign in the 20th MVCA One Day Cricket Tournament on a winning note as they lost the last two wickets in successive bowls when they needed a run for victory in two overs here at Langthabal Public Ground.

Model Club won the toss and gathered 143 runs for 9 wickets in allotted 30 overs after electing to bat first.

NAPSA levelled the score within 28 overs with two wickets left to spare and needed only one run for the victory.

But Model Club bowler made the most of two first two balls of the 29th over to sweep the last two batters to settle the game in a tie and salvage his team a point.

For Model Club Dhamen top scored with 38 runs and remained not out while Suresh added 36 runs off 42 balls.

Iboyaima 23 and Sunil 13 also registered double digit runs in this innings which saw Ibobi of NAPSA clinched three wickets for 15 runs in 5 overs while Gopal and Premanda shared four wickets among them.

Simon of NAPSA also fetched a wicket to restrict Model to 143 for 9 .

In the chase, Ibobi 20, Bhogen 39 and Roshikanta 22 steered NAPSA close to victory but failed to capitalise on their chase as the last two batters fumbled badly.

Bobin 2/20, Dhamen 2/19 and Saratchandra 2/19 shared six wickets as Iboyaima picked a wicket for 14 runs in 6 overs which included two maidens.

Ibobi was adjudged man of the match.

SNC will play YCC in the Group B opener tomorrow at the same venue.
