Baptist English High School clinch U-17 Boys trophy

Baptist English High School, Kangpokpi edged past Bright Career Academy, Imphal East 1-0 and emerged winner of U-17 boys championship of the ongoing State Level Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament 2018 organised under the aegis of Department of Youth Affairs and Sports at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
Baptist English High School, Kangpokpi will now represent Manipur in the upcoming U-17 Boys Subroto Mukherjee International Invitation Football tournament 2018 which will be held at National Capital Delhi.
In the closing ceremony, Bobby Waikhom (IAS), secretary Youth Affairs and Sports and Kh Pramoda Devi, joint director Youth Affairs and Sports who have attended the function as dignitaries distributed trophies and certificates to winner and runners-up of U-14 Boys competition, Unique Model Academy, Heingang and Seikhor Christian High School, Ukhrul; U-17 Girls winner and runners-up, Nilamani English High School, Wangoi and Madhuiriati Government High School, Bishnupur and U-17 Boys title holder and runners-up Baptist English High School, Kangpokpi and Bright Career Academy, Imphal East.
In today's final match of the U-17 Boys competition, Baptist English High School and Bright Career Academy played a keenly contested match.
Both the team tried hard to outdo each other but failed to produce any goal till the half-time.
This has resulted to a very competitive match as both the team craved for championship title.
However, Baptist English High School had the last laughed by scoring the winning goal in the 61th minute through Songpu.
Thangtinhao, Paoginthang and Bainingthang of Baptist English High School were yellow carded in the 25th, 70th and additional minutes of the match for aggressive tackle while N Sheetal and Th James of Bright Career Academy were booked in the 32nd and 69th minute for violent behavior.
Earlier, Bright Career Academy thrashed Anallon Christian Institute Higher Secondary School, Chandel 7-1 in the first semi-final to book a place in the final riding on Tondonba (IT, 38') which include a goal through penalty kick, S Krishnakanta (27' and 47'), Ph Kanan Meitei (29'), Roger (50') and Th James (52') while the lone goal of Anallon Christian Institute Higher Secondary School, Chandel was scored by Robert (35') through penalty kick.
In the second semi-final, Baptist English High School, Kangpokpi blanked Seikhor Christian High School, Ukhrul 2-0 and sailed through the final.
Sagouthang scored the opening goal for Baptist English High School in the 23rd minute and was doubled by Mangouhao in the 68th minute of the match.
