SPANDAN : District-Level Badminton Tournament underway at Senapati

Senapati, November 03 2026: A five-day District-Level Badminton Tournament under SPANDAN (Sports for Peace and Development Across Nations) commenced today at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Hall, Rikhumai Taphou, Senapati Headquarters.

Featuring Under-15 and Under-19 categories for both boys and girls, the event is organised by the District Youth Affairs & Sports Office (DYASO), Senapati, under the supervision of the District Administration, and in collaboration with the District Khelo India Centre (Badminton) and the Senapati District Badminton Association (SDBA) .

The tournament aims to promote peace, unity, sportsmanship, and holistic development through sports.

A total of 40 players are participating in the competitions.

The inaugural program was graced by S Plim Reikhenamai, SDO Willong, as the chief guest, and Daniel Shangne, Secretary SDBA, as the special guest.

Declaring the tournament open, chief guest S Plim Reikhenamai lauded the organisers and highlighted the significant role of sports in building friendships, physical fitness, and community unity.

He urged the young athletes to compete with dedication, discipline, and true sportsmanship while avoiding injuries.

Earlier, PS John Longkhaye, Youth Officer, DYASO, welcomed the gathering and described sports as a transformative tool for social cohesion and national development under the SPANDAN initiative.

The inaugural function was also attended by N Bhobindro Singh, DYASO Senapati and Secretary of the District-Level SPANDAN Committee; Pforkrehrii, Khelo India Badminton Mentor; alongside DYASO staff, teachers, and students.
