An award function of the State Kala Akademi Award, 2007 was held today at the JN Manipur Dance Academy organized by the State Kala Akademi with Manipur Governor and Chairman of the State Kala Akademi, Gurbachan Jagat as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor Gurbachan Jagat said that one of the objectives of the Akademi since its inception in 1972 has been to recognize various art forms and nurturing it.
Saying that Manipur is rich in cultural heritage, he extolled the people to remember that culture plays an important role in the development of mankind.
Recipients of the awards were Naorem Nila (Music) and Wahengbam Ibobi (Fine art) in the fellowship category.
The awardees who received the Kala Akademi Award, 2007 from the Governor, Gurbachan Jagat were Abujam Tamu (Dance), Wangkhem Lokendrajit (Dance), Keisham Jaminikanta (Music), Nameirakpam Thambalngou (Music), Khsetrimayum Raboni (Theatre), Laishram Kunjaraj (Shumang Leela), Haobam Nandakishore (Goura Leela), Okram Baruni (Storytelling), (L) Mayanglambam Thabal (Thang-ta), HN Amzathang (Tribal Culture), Stephen Angkang (Tribal Culture), Dr Thokchom Ibohanbi (Literature), Tayenjam Nanao (Fine Arts), and Wahengbam Khagemba (Fine Arts).
The Awards carry a plaque, shawl, and a memento each.
