Imphal, April 03:
A joint statement issued by the presidents of Raphei Katamnao Long, Zingsho Katamnao Long, Zingtum Katamnao Long and Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long said that the tribals of the State vehemently reject the JFM notification under the Reserve Forest Act of 1927.Accusing that the notification is a process of displacing tribals from their own land, the statement asserted that implementation of JMF on non-Govt property and where Govt has no proprietary right is violation of sub-section (1) and (3) of Section 29 of
the Forest Act 1927 .
The statement added that by law tribal land cannot be transferred to non-tribals, and Forest Department cannot be an exception.
MLR and LR act 1960 Section 1 (2) recognises tribal ownership of land in the hills of Manipur, it added.
