Shillong, June 24 2022: The damages caused by natural calamities in Meghalaya are estimated to be more than Rs 300 crore, according to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, reports NNN.

Stating that the damages caused by natural calamities are estimated to be more than Rs 300 crore, Tynsong said, "I am sure the Government of India will bail us out and help us to restore the damages caused to private and Government properties" .

He, however, also said that Rs 300 crore may not be sufficient.

"Today we have instructed the concerned departments including Agriculture (to assess the damages caused in every sector)�and they are sitting with the Revenue Department (on the matter)," he added.

Tynsong said as far as roads are concerned, the PWD has already done a detailed estimate while Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) is still collecting the details of the damages as there are so many interior places where roads have been disconnected.

"However our officers are on the ground to assess all details of the damages," he added.

Meanwhile, an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) will be visiting the flood-affected areas of Meghalaya to assess the damages next week.

"The IMCT will be arriving in the State next week.

They will inspect the affected places and once that is done then they will submit the report to the Government of India," Deputy Chief Minister who is also in charge of PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong told reporters today.
