CorCom denies hand in Nagamapal blast

Imphal, September 18 2013: Denying involvement in the September 13 bomb blast at Nagamapal area that claimed the lives of nine migrant workers, coordination Committee (CorCom) of KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (Pro), RPF and UNLF said the explosion being deliberately triggered by Indian agents to lay the blame on insurgent outfits cannot be ruled out.

A statement issued by its media coordinator H Poirei said CorCom considers that the blast merits clarification as there is no change on the conglomerate's stand that non-locals should have left Manipur by December 2012 .

As the CorCom declaration still remains, there might be speculation from certain quarters about involvement of constituent partners in the recent blast, Poirei explained while expressing that Government of Manipur needs to work out a mechanism to restrict entry of non-locals into the State in order to prevent similar incidents.

Stating that unrestrained influx of migrant workers is a serious cause of concern for the indigenous people as such a trend would eventually mean dilution of various rights of the locals, he also accused the Government of Manipur of endorsing the Central Government's hidden agenda of 'demographic invasion' .

Contending that Chief Minister O Ibobi's alleged callousness on the issue of mass influx of migrant workers is being reflected by the Government's reluctance to prohibit entry of non locals, Poirei said such indifferent attitude also testifies that the State Government does not accord much importance on survival of the indigenous people.

Expressing that with the exception of the majority Meetei community scattered in the valley areas, number of non-locals overshadowing combined total of other non-Meetei communities is a fallout of the political class relying on 'population politics', said the CorCom statement citing non-local population in Jiribam assembly constituency exceeding number of indigenous people in the assembly segment to substantiate it assertion.

Reminding that with the burgeoning non-local population there is distinct possibility of Jiribam AC being represented by a non-local, Poirei cautioned that the Jiribam case is a success story of India's 'demographic invasion' .

Noting that rapid expansion of the non-local population is certain to create anxiety and friction in a particular society as the indigenous people inclined towards protecting rights of the locals has been a universal concept, Poirei also observed that growing dissension and class division in certain parts of India as well as frequent incidents of Indian nationals being targeted in even developed countries like USA, Germany or Australia is understandable as presence of huge non-locals is certain to cause insecure feeling amongst people having ancestral roots.

Referring to traditional recreational games such as 'Kwak-Kwak', in which the crow symbolises aliens, as the forefathers' insight on the possibility of violent consequences sparked by unchecked growth of outsiders' population, CorCom suggested that to protect the lives of innocent migrant workers one of the easiest means would be for the Government to put an effective check on entries of non-locals into Manipur.

Moreover as Manipur is besieged with the struggle to regain independence and considering the fact that there are various interest groups whose intentions differ there is always the possibility that the Nagamapal blast might be the handiwork of some non-UG elements whose ultimate motives might be to tarnish image of revolutionary organisations, maintained Poirei.
