Centre takes note of Meitei Mayek plea for UPSC exam

Imphal, November 03 2026: A request to include Meitei Mayek script alongside Bengali script for Manipuri Optional Question Paper in UPSC's civil services examination has been "noted", said Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office.

Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also the Minister of State, Ministry of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, intimated this in a letter to former Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba on October 5 .

Dr Jitendra was responding to a matter raised by the then MP during the Zero Hour of the Rajya Sabha on February 9, 2026 .

In the Parliament, the MP Leishemba Sanajaoba had urged the Government of India to include Meitei Mayek script alongside Bengali script for Manipuri Optional Question Paper in the civil services examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.

The matter raised in the Parliament is appreciated and "has been noted", said Dr Jitendra in his letter to the former MP .
