Imphal, October 02 2015 :
The fate of the three Bills, which were passed by the State Legislative Assembly to safeguard the indigenous people of the State, is still uncertain, said titular king of Manipur, Leishemba Sanajaoba.
He was addressing the first ever press conference cum meeting conducted by the newly formed Meitei/Meetei Nationalist Party (MNP).
He said that the new political party has been formed for the welfare and unity of different communities of the State.
After people's intense agitation that lasted for around two months, the State Legislative Assembly passed the three Bills with an aim to safeguard the indigenous people of the State on August 31, the titular king said.
Unfortunately, people of the hill districts erupted in a huge uproar alleging that these Bills would infringe upon their rights, Leishemba Sanajaoba said.
Although, the Governor had forwarded the Bills to the President of India for his assent, it is still not known whether he would give his assent or send the same to the Parliament for discussion, he said.
As such, the fate of the three Bills is uncertain as the people of hill areas are exerting intense pressure on the Centre to annul it.
At this juncture, people of valley areas are in complete dilemma as they have been constantly accused of being communal, he said.
The titular king however observed that the fate of the future generation of the State would be bleak if valley people remain silent on the issue.
He further opined that hill people must not undermine the fact that Meiteis/Meeteis have been putting in efforts to maintain unity and harmony and they are not communal.
Saying that MNP has been formed at the right time, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the party would put in relentless efforts towards bringing unity and maintaining territorial integrity of the State.
He also said that political leaders of the State are unable to divulge the truth to the Central leaders every time any controversy or problem arises in the State.
Taking part at the press conference, High Court Bar Association, Manipur president Kh Binoy said that MNP would strive to find a way to restore normalcy and harmonious living of different communities.
