Imphal, December 26 2015 :
The 28th Statutory Conference of All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organizations (AIFUCTO) was held at Ambaji, Gujarat from December 18 to 20 .
The theme of the conference is "Higher Education in the New Education policy: Challenges and Prospects".
During the conference, election of office bearers of 2015-2017 was held and AMCTA president M Lokendro was elected as Zone I (North-East) zonal secretary.
All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA), a unit of AIFUCTO represented Manipur in the conference and highlighted the problems faced by teachers in Manipur colleges and other North Eastern States due to the UGC clarification letters of 6/7/2015 and 4/9/2015 which states "Any Ph.D/M.Phil degree awarded by a university under the supervision of a supervisor who is not a faculty member of the university or its affiliated PG colleges/institute would be in violation of UGC (Minimum standard and Procedure Award of M.Phil/Ph.D) regulations, 2009 .
It said that the word mentioning PG in the clarification letter discriminates all the teachers who are serving in the colleges of North-East India and requested the word PG be removed from the UGC letters as there are only few colleges having PG programmes in the States of North-East, according to a press release issued by the president of AMCTA.
