Later, a function was held at the community hall of Khongjom War Memorial Complex with the Chief Minister as chief guest and Tourism Minister TN Haokip as president.
Works Minister K Ranjit, MLA of Heirok A/C M Okendro, MLA of Khangabok A/C Okram Ongbi Landhoni, MLA of Lilong A/C Md Helaluddin Khan and MLA of Wangjing-Tentha A/C M Hemanta were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the Government accords highest honour to the 'selfless heroes' who laid down their lives for the sovereignty of the motherland while fighting against the British forces.
The Government is therefore planning to develop such a historical site by expanding the area of Khongjom War Memorial complex and develop it into a tourist spot.
Discussion is already underway to ensure that the memorial pillar of the heroes installed atop Kheba Ching of Khongjom is visible to the people from afar, the Chief Minister said, while appealing to the people for supporting the Government in taking up developmental activities.
Observing that people of all the communities in Manipur have fought the British and sacrificed their lives in the Khongjom war, the Chief Minister also appealed to all the communities for full participation in any function related to Khongjom war.
In his presidential address, Tourism Minister TN Haokip observed that Manipur can become a prosperous State only when there is active public participation in the developmental works of the Govt.
