As in other parts of the globe, World Alzheimer's Day was observed under the theme of 'Human rights and health of people with Alzheimer's/Dementia' in Manipur today.
In the observance function, organised by Bharat Sevak Samaj, Manipur State Branch at the conference hall of Mass Hotel, Assembly Road here, Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Minister of Manipur Rishang Keishing ; Ex-Dean and Co-ordinator of Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Education Department of Political Science, Manipur University Prof Ksh Bimola Devi and Chairperson of Manipur State Social Welfare Advisory Board RK Noyansana Devi were respectively the chief guest, president and guest of honour.
More than 123 social workers, representatives of NGOs, senior citizens and Government officials attended the function.
Former Project Director of Manipur State AIDS Control Society and Consultant of NACO Dr Khomdon Lisam and Associate Professor in Department of Psychiatry, RIMS Dr RK Lenin were among the resource persons who spoke and imparted valuable suggestions on prevention of Dementia among the aged people at the occasion.
At the end of the observance, the participants unanimously resolved to take up immediate action to prevent Alzheimer's disease and other Dimentias, as well as take up steps to ensure that the Declaration adopted at Kyoto and Paris in this regard are implemented.
