To make up for the slapping of a pregnant woman identified as Saikhom Thaba by a doctor in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of RIMS, the accused doctor has apologised to the husband of the woman as well as to the people of Manipur.
The accused doctor identified as Dr Paradatdev Burman tendered his apology to Saikhom Hemanta, husband of Thaba and to the people of Manipur at large during a press conference in the office chamber of Superintendent of RIMS Dr Mohen today.
A resident of Khangabok Part-III, Saikhom Thaba was admitted to the labour room of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of RIMS for delivery case on September 20 .
At around 1.15 pm of the same day, her labour pain started and as she could not bear it, Thaba raised a cry and shouted for help.
Annoyed by the din, Dr Paradatdev Burman slapped Thaba.
Apologising for his misconduct, Dr Paradatdev Burman admitted it was his mistake and assured that he would not repeat it in future.
Dr Paradatdev Burman is a PG 3rd year student in Gynaecology Department of RIMS.
In connection with the incident, Dr Mohen said that it was not deliberate nor an intentional act on the part of Dr Paradatdev Burman to slap his patient.
Such incidents do occur between the doctors and the patients from time to time and it should not be regarded as some serious public issue.
