Ipom Babu remembered

Renowned comedian Oinam Babu popularly known as Ipom Babu was remembered on his 85th birth anniversary with a memorial function at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen today organised by the Shumang Leela Council and the family of the deceased.
Friends and acquaintances of the late comedian were given simple gifts on the occasion.
Delivering the keynote address, Makhonmani Mongshataba said the birth anniversary celebration was deterred for a day owing to the mass rally for the common future that was held yesterday.
Ipom Babu is not just known for his contribution in Manipuri Ipom, he left a mark in Shumang Leela, Manipuri films and drama.
The late artist was a gifted Pena player and could blow the conch with ease.
He also hosted various cultural shows during his lifetime.

Attending as chief guest, Art and Culture Commissioner and Manipur State Kala Academy secretary Kangjam Radhakumar said Ipom was the most celebrated form of comedy in olden times.
Ipom Babu, Mayang Imphal Tombi and Chaoba were such artists whose mere appearance could invoke laughter among the audience.
Their performance was flawless each time, Radhakumar recalled.
Manipur University of Culture Vice-Chancellor Naorem Khagendra and Shumang Leela Council president M Purnimasi Leima were also present at the celebration.
A comic play Leela washak, sponsored by Manipur State Power Distribution Co.
