Kangpokpi,October 29 2026:
Two Kuki youths were allegedly abducted by Naga militants from a spot between Hengbung and Taphou Kuki village on October 28, 2026 .
The abducted youths have been identified as Thangginlun Chongloi (21) s/o Paominlal Chongloi and Paoginlal Hangsing (20) s/o Haolet Hangsing, both residents of Taphou Kuki village.
Condemning the alleged abduction of the two Kuki youths and demanding their immediate, safe and unconditional release, CoTU has called a 48-hour total shutdown in Kangpokpi district.
The shutdown will begin at 5 pm on October 29 and continue till 5 pm on October 31 .
All shops, markets, vehicles, educational institutions and Government and private offices will remain closed during the period, with medical services, media and security forces exempted.
Demanding urgent Government intervention, CoTU called on the authorities to act on a war footing to secure the safe release of the two youths.
The Sadar Hills based tribal body also strongly condemned what it described as a total security lapse and the step-motherly treatment meted out to the Kuki-Zo community by security forces and the State Government.
Alleging a glaring disparity in the response to security-related incidents involving different communities, CoTU claimed that incidents involving non-Kuki-Zo groups often prompted swift rescue operations, combing exercises and high-level administrative attention, whereas cases involving the kidnapping, assault or killing of Kuki-Zo people were allegedly marked by silence, delays or inaction.
Describing the alleged differential treatment as unacceptable, the organisation said such a biased approach had emboldened anti-social elements and raised serious questions about the impartiality of the security response.
CoTU warned that it would be compelled to intensify its agitation if the two kidnapped youths were not released safely and unharmed.
