51,774 persons issued ILP passes at Mao in 2024

Senapati, January 27 2025: A total of 51,774 persons were issued (entry) Inner Line Permits (ILP) from January 1, 2024 to December 1, 2024 at ILP screening point Mao.

This information was announced during the 76th Republic Day celebration at Sanyi Dahrii Sports Complex, Khabung Karong on January 26 .

During the same period, 62,958 persons exited the gate (Mao/State) and as many as 946 ILP defaulters were issued challans.

The authorities collected a total of Rs 61,33,400 as permit fees.

It may be mentioned that the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regime was extended to Manipur on December 11, 2019 .

The decision came two days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced in Lok Sabha that the ILP would be extended to the Northeastern State.

Manipur is the fourth State after Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram where the ILP regime is applicable.

Inner Line Permit (ILP) is an official travel document issued by the State Government concerned to allow inward travel of an Indian citizen into a protected area for a limited period.

It is obligatory for Indian citizens from outside those States to obtain a permit to enter the protected State.

The document is an effort by the Government to regulate movement to certain areas located near the international border of India.

An ILP is usually significantly easier to obtain than the analogous Protected Area Permit (PAP) which is the document required by non-citizens to enter the same areas.

Notably, the Government of India agreed to extend ILP regime to Manipur after a sustained civil movement.
