Senapati, February 19 2025:
Seven months after a 25-year-old dental surgeon lost his life after he slipped into the river from an unfenced section of the National Highway-2, no action has been taken up yet to address the accident prone area.
The National Highway-2 stretch between the district council office and Vakho has seen many accidents.
In July last year, it claimed the life of the young dental surgeon.
He was swept away by the Senapati river when he slipped into the river trying to push an Eeco van that got stuck due to a mudslide.
Despite the stretch being acknowledged as an accident prone area, the Department concerned has not addressed the safety concern of the commuters, said locals.

W beam metal crash barriers may prevent fatal accidents from occuring on the stretch, they said.
Notably, the installation of W beam metal crash barriers for the protection of vehicles has been left incomplete in two places (around 50 metres) .
Deep potholes and the narrow road due to mudslide last year have added to the woes of the commuters.
The gorge in the area is deep, 50-60 metres in some places.
Metal crash barriers must be installed to prevent vehicles from skidding and falling into the deep gorge, said commuters.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) guidelines, metal crash barriers, typically "W-beam" type, are mandated on NHs at locations with high accident risk like steep embankments, sharp curves, valley sides of hill roads, and where the embankment height is 3 meters or more.
