PREPAK observes Martyrs Day

Imphal, November 12 2019: Together with the people of the land, the proscribed PREPAK today observed the Martyrs Day at different places, according to a statement issued by the outfit's publicity and propaganda secretary in-charge LeibakNgakpa Luwang.

It conveyed that the main features of the Martyrs' Day observation were offering of light and floral tributes to the martyrs who had laid down their lives in the course of the liberation movement.

The Martyrs Day was observed at the Red Army's (the outfit's armed wing) general headquarters, 701 battalion, tactical headquarters, base areas, transit camps and training centres.

The function held at 701 battalion was graced by the Red Army CAS and battalion commander as chief guest and functional president respectively.

There the chief guest pulled the seven-coloured flag to half mast and the gathering observed two minutes' silence in honour of the martyrs.

The Red Army also offered gun salute to the martyrs.

A combined team of Manipur Police and CRPF attacked a transit camp of PREPAK at Leimarok, Kameng on November 12, 1978 which resulted in a fierce gun battle.

Three cadres were killed in the gun battle for the first time in the history of Kangleipak's liberation movement.

PREPAK has been observing the Martyrs Day every year on November 12 since 1979.In one of their offensives, PREPAK cadres overpowered MR personnel guarding Kabowakching Sugar Mill and tried to confiscate their weapons on November 12, 1985 .

However, one MR personnel opened fire suddenly out of fear and it killed PREPAK founder leader RK Tullachandra.

After the death of RK Tullachandra, PREPAK clubbed together the events of Kameng and Kabowakching and started observing Martyrs Day in memory and honour of all the martyrs who had laid down their lives for the cause of Kangleipak, it conveyed.

As testified by folklores and history, all the indigenous communities of Manipur share a common origin and they have been living together since ages.

However, the Government of India has been working to divide the people in the name of making peace with one UG group, it decried.

People of Kangleipak must fight such sinister policies of India with all available resources.

It is the desire of Government of India to ignite an internecine war and eliminate all the indigenous people of the land, transplant their own population here and transform the land into a Hindu State, the outfit alleged.

This is a crime against humanity.

At one point of time in future, the Indian President, the Prime Minister and other leaders involved in this crime against humanity would not be able to escape from the international law, it continued.

Given the State's critical situation, people of Kangleipak need to look to international law and international forums, it said.

It then conveyed gratitude to all the people who paid floral tributes at different memorial tombs of the martyrs and offered lights at their households.

The outfit also pledged that it would continue its armed campaign against India until Kangleipak is liberated and a progressive, egalitarian society is established.
