Imphal, October 14 2026:
No Kangaroo Court, summary justice or media trial can judge Lok Sabha MP Dr Bimol, asserted Manipur State Pensioners' Union's working president L Sharat, speaking to reporters at the office of the union at Pishumthong today.
Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam is a citizen of the country and as such, he is entitled to have a fair trial, Sharat said, referring to allegations of sexual harassment being levelled against the Lok Sabha MP.
Dr Bimol, on many occasions, has raised constructive criticisms over policies of the Government.
He, however, has become a victim of the BJP's trend of attacking leaders who are outspoken against its Government, Sharat said.
A person who is found guilty of sexual harassment must be given punishment, but according to the law.
No Kangaroo Court, summary justice or media trial can punish anybody, he said.
Sharat also noted that the hasty dismissal of the Professor by the JNU authority also reflects "how soon they want him gone" .
His dismissal from service and the JNU VC's conduct in the matter are highly condemnable, he added.
Dr Bimol must have access to a fair trial.
There is nothing wrong in punishing him if he is found guilty by an established Court, Sharat said.
