Rape accused attacked

Imphal, October 12 2015: Angry locals today attacked the owner of a private boarding house who has been accused of raping a minor girl inmate after he was produced before a special POCSO Court, Imphal West today.

Sagolsem Ranabir (39) s/o Khagemba of Mayang Imphal Maibam Thongkhong, owner of a private boarding at Mayang Imphal Konchak was produced before the Court in connection with a rape case today.

A case has been filed against him under Section 5 of POCSO Act, 2012 by Imphal West police station.

The rape accused had to be taken away swiftly in a prisoners' van after he came under attack from angry womenfolk where the rape victim hails from.

It may be mentioned that the rape incident came to light after the victim was reportedly said to be in the early stage of pregnancy a few months back.

The rape accused admitted his crime after locals pulled him up.

Locals also assaulted him.

The accused was rescued by a team of Mayang Imphal police station and later the case was handed over to Imphal West Women Police Station.

Deposes : Uncle of a girl who was allegedly raped and murdered by one Soibam Dhanabir, has given his statement before the Session Court, Imphal West today.

The next hearing of the case has been fixed for November 9 .

Soibam Dhanabir s/o S Tomba of Ningombam Mayai Leikai, accused in the brutal rape and murder case who is on bail was present during the trial hearing today.

Prosecution witness number 9 who is the uncle of the victim deposed his statement before the Court.

He was cross examined by the defence lawyer.

After the trial hearing of the case today, the Court has fixed November 9 for the next trial hearing.

Doctor conducting the post mortem and another witness will give their statements before the Court in the next hearing.

The rape and murder case was taken up on February 24 last year under FIR number 29(1) 2010 of Singjamei police station under Section 302 and 102 IPC at Sessions Court, Imphal East (then Manipur East), about four and half years after the incident.

The case was transferred to Sessions Court, Imphal West a few months back.

It may also be mentioned that the victim was found dead at Langthabal Phura Makhong Poila Loukol on January 30, 2010 with her phanek lifted up to her waist.

Her sweater and inner wear were found removed.
