Imphal, June 04 2025:
Manipur Fire Service personnel have so far rescued 1,059 people including 47 patients, 95 elderly citizens and 129 children amid the flood situation.
The activities of Manipur Fire Service are not limited to fire-fighting but shouldering responsibility in all types of disaster like the present devastating flood at different localities in Imphal East district, stated director Laishram Nabachandra.
According to Nabachandra, a collective responsibility of government agencies, civil society organisations, clubs and local people is most important in tackling natural or man-made disaster including the present flood.

Understanding this collective responsibility, firemen of Manipur Fire Service are shouldering the responsibility to rescue and save people marooned by flood.
He informed the media that all the 61 firemen of the head office of Manipur Fire Service are utilising available equipment in rescuing people in the present flood since May 31 .
The most challenging situation the firemen faced was shifting of patients and important medical equipment from JNIMS and Karkinos cancer hospitals.
After JNIMS was flooded completely and there was no other means to shift patients from ICU, firemen managed to bring out patients from the hospital despite facing challenges.
Similarly, firemen also managed to shift cancer patients from Karkinos cancer hospital to safer locations.
Even though water levels of rivers have receded, many localities in Imphal East district remain inundated.
The main problem faced by the people in these areas is scarcity of drinking water.
To address the situation, Manipur Fire Service provided 96,000 litres of drinking water at five localities particularly at relief camps and the same service will continue, Nabachandra said and informed people that Manipur Fire Service is not merely to fight fire disasters.
