Imphal, January 30 2016 :
JD (U) State unit president M Tombi has demanded security for Thounaojam Herojit saying that the suspended cop has become a scapegoat.
Speaking to reporters at their Babupara office, Tombi said that the Government must come up with a clarification on whether Herojit's statement was right or wrong before the issue ignites a huge public uproar.
CBI has been probing the incident since the past more than five years and people have been longing to know the truth about the infamous incident.
As such, it is laudable on the part of Herojit for revealing the truth and journalist Paojel Chaoba for bringing the matter to light, he said.
Reminding Chief Minister Okram Ibobi's controversial statement, 'Haatpa natana upai leitre (killing is the option left)', Tombi said that the statement which was made by the Chief Minister some years back showed his political immaturity and incompetency.
He said that Dr AK Jhalajit must voluntarily tender resignation or the Government must put him under suspension to enable effective probe.
Tombi also said that CBI must be allowed to investigate the incident independently by suspending former DGP Yumnam Joykumar from the primary membership of BJP.
He also demanded that the fake encounter case be handed over to NIA.
Saying that Herojit has confessed his mistake as his life became insecure after he followed the order of his superior officer, Tombi said that the Central and State Governments must now provide security to Herojit.
JD (U) State general secretary Lien Gangte said that his party would also take part in the mass rally on common future of Manipur to be jointly organised by UCM, AMUCO and CCSK on February 6 .
He also urged other political parties to participate the rally.
JD (U) National executive member Ch Manglemjao was also present at the press conference.
