Cultural session marks KLFO conference

As part of the 17th general conference cum cultural and sports meet of Kham Lungpha Fraternity Organisation (KLFO), a cultural session was held today at Shungriphai, Southern part of Ukhrul district.
Held after every two years, the conference this year was hosted by Shungriphai Youth Club.
Altogether, 28 villages from different parts of the State took part in the conference cum cultural and sports meet held to unite the different Tangkhul Kamo ethnic communities with 'Momo Koko' titles and names.
Engineer of Central Public Works Department, Delhi Leishiyo Keishing, Assistant Inspector (AI), Education Department of Ukhrul district Marem, Senior MO of RIMS Dr Rachel Keishing, president of Information Centres for Hills Areas, Manipur (ICHAM) N Rajendro (Boy) and president of KLFO A Amo Wungden attended the function as presidium members.

Village headmen, social workers and other well wishers were also present at the function.
Leishiyo stressed on the importance conservation of forest resources to preserve the rich tradition and cultures.
He stated that traditions and culture of the Tangkhul ethnic community is interlinked with the forest, and destroying forest will ultimately lead to losing of their cultures.
Dr Rachael proposed on conservation and preservation of the indigenous traditions and customs of the Tangkhul ethnic community and urged younger generations to preserve the traditions inherited from their forefathers.
Rajendro emphasized on including educational programme in the coming years for such KLFO conference.
Without education, there can be no development for any community.
He urged the Tangkhul community to work together to bring back the pride of holding important positions in State administration which they once had by prioritizing education and developing human resources.
Various activities including folk song, folk dance, traditional fire making were conducted as part of cultural session by diverse troupes coming from different villages.
Tug of war, archery competitions for both men and women were also held in the sports category.
