Imphal, June 17:
Launching a scathing attack, one of the formidable Opposition leaders and president of State unit NCP president Radhabinod Koijam has charged the Congress led SPF Government of sidelining developmental issues and creating political anarchy in the State while clamouring for power within the Congress Legislative Party.
Addressing the concluding function of a week-long political conference held in connection with the 6th anniversary of NCP at Ibudhou Samuroulakpa Mandop at Samurou Bazar yesterday, Radhabinod said that the Congress led SPF Government has failed as a result of the prolonged internal wrangle for power within the Congress Legislature Party (CPL), thus snapping the ties between the people and the Government.
Organised by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Wangoi Kendra Committee, the political conference assumes significant in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha election, which many of the party leaders who spoke at the occasion, took note of in deriding Congress party.
Radhabinod said that with imposition of frequent bandh, blockade and dharna becoming the very hallmark of the State, there has been no sign of any governance.
On whose order, the Government has been acting is not known and the sign of a legally elected Government is nowhere in sight even as the number of effigies burnt in protest by the aggrieved people has been on the rise, Radhabinod said, while observing that it is high time for the people to find out who are actually benefitting from the fund released by the Government of India for taking up developmental activities of the people in the State.
He further said that with the Congress party losing its hold in different parts of the country, the fate of Congress would be decided by December.
After the upcoming Lok Sabha election, there would be a change in the political scenario of Manipur as well, he predicted.
Speaking of NCP, Radhabinod said that inspite of being a National party, core principles and ideologies of NCP are steeped in regionalism.
Besides working for the upliftment of youths and minorities, improving the status of women in the society has always been the main concern of the NCP, he explained.
Party MLA Th Nandakishore, who also spoke at the occasion appealed to the people to vote for NCP candidates and extend their support in increasing the number of the party MLAs since Congress party is not going to return to power after the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.
Doukhomang Khongsai, another party MLA observed that even if NCP is not a coalition partner of the Government, it has been doing its duty as an Opposition party in keeping a close tab on the functioning and failure of the Government.
MLA Salam Joy, who is also the National general secretary of Youth Congress pointed out that in his home Assembly Constituency Wangoi developmental activities are being taken up with sanctioning of the required fund.
Reacting to the remarks of MPCC president Gaikhangam that Wangoi has been remaining backward as the people have not elected a Congress candidate as their representative, Joy said that Gaikhangam is one of the elected representatives who do not even care to visit his own Assembly Constituency.
Imitating other party leaders, the treasurer of MPCC too has set up his house at Imphal.
This is something that the people should should take serious note of, he added.
