The Botanical Survey of India (BSI) has evinced keen interest to study the plant found in Saikot of Churachandpur popularly known for its healing property as cancer plant though it is locally known as Chawilien Damdei.
Director of the Institute of Bioresource and Sustainable Development Dr M Ruhinikumar said that the Director of the Botanical Survey of India, Sajol was at Imphal to participate in a meeting of the Institute's Advisory Committee.
During the meeting, a detailed discussion was also held on the plant with the BSI Director, conveyed Dr Ruhinikumar.
Saying that the Institute has started chemical analysis of the plant, Dr Ruhinikumar maintained that it's a bit early to publish the medicinal properties and contents of the plant.
He further informed that some extracts of the plant would be sent to well equipped and technically advanced laboratories outside the State.
