Power promise in two months

Daili/Karong, March 15 2015: Accompanied by top officials of Manipur Power Development Corporation Limited (MPDCL), power advisor to the Chief Minister, Jarnail Singh visited Daili village near Kangpokpi and Khabung Karong power station yesterday.

During his visit, the former Chief Secretary met village leaders at Daili village before visiting Karong where he convened a meeting with civil bodies and local leaders in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Jacintha Lazarus and MPDCL Managing Director N Sharat and other officials.

He also inspected the multipurpose sports complex located at Karong.

Naga People's Organisation president Ng Lohrii, Poumai Naga Union leaders, Karong Union leaders and others represented the public of the district.

At Daili village, the visiting team was received by village authority members, women leaders and Parish Priest and Principal Fr Kurian.

During his 45 minute halt at the village, Jarnail Singh was briefed on the newly installed transformer and electric poles which were provided by the MPDCL.

Daili village is among the best village for efficient payment of power bills in Kangpokpi areas, sources added.

Speaking to civil bodies and locals at Karong, Jarnail Singh announced that power situation in the district would improve within two months' time as setting up of new mini-power stations is already in progress at Sekmai, Gamphazol, Mao-Punanamai and Mayangkhang.

With the present Karong power station holding 5MVA which is not sufficient for district headquarters areas, the new stations once completed will provide extra power back-up for regular power supply to the people.

While seeking public support and local cooperation against threats and demands to workers by armed groups, he added that a Chennai based company would renovate the aged Karong station with works slated to start from March 21.The new facelift works are likely to take six months to complete.

Further, he also said that with the support from DoNER Ministry and financial agencies, modernization process of the power system in the State has begun.

Interacting with Jarnail Singh, the Karong Union leaders reminded the urgent need for land compensation of the present Karong power station and appointment of Grade IV post as assured in the past by Government officials.

Lauding the genuine efforts of the present DC to improve power supply, the union also pledged to extend its support to the District Administration to develop the Karong station.

During his inspection of the multi-purpose sports complex, the IAS officer was briefed on delay of works and poor funding procedures.

Jarnail Singh assured the villagers to look into the matter and apprise the matter to the Chief Minister.

He reminded the local leaders that development process would increase only when works are implemented without any individual hurdles, threat or monetary demands from any group or organizations.
