A day-long seminar on 'Ngasigee Meerol Amasung Mahakavi Anganghalgee Sahitya' marked the 118th birth anniversary celebration of noted litterateur Hijam Anganghal at Manipur Press Club today.
Rendition of literary works and contribution of Hijam Anganghal for overall development of the society along with offering of floral tributes and speeches by dignitaries were the other highlights of the celebration which was held as a conclusion event of the anniversary observance that began from July 28 in some parts of the State.
As chief guest of the celebration programme, JNM Dance Academy Director Dilip Mayengbam picked out Anganghal's Khamba-Thoibi as one of the most impressive works and opined that the poetry compilation be translated into English for wider reach.
Deputy Director of Art and Culture Department W Mera Singh opined that compared to number of writers in the State works of only a few could impress the readers and suggested that the focus needs to be on quality rather than quantum publication.
Prof Elangbam Dinamani pointed out that Anganghal concentrated on the well-being and education of the women, and as such most of his literary works were based on women.
