Imphal, April 24:
Greeting the people on its 14th foundation day, but nevertheless not shying away from some hard talking, chairman of the proscribed KYKL, Toijam Achou today said that the people of Manipur are today caught in dire straits.
In a statement issued to the press today, the KYKL leader said that the people of Manipur today have to face the burden of the armed struggle as well as face the responsibilities of the society.
Though the armed struggle started more than 30 years back, the people still have to cope with the rising instances of factionalism, the failure to the armed groups to strike a united chord as well as the mushrooming of several pseudo revolutionaries.
Adding to the woes of the people are the rising numbers cadres masquerading as revolutionaries as well as the extreme steps taken up by the armed groups, said Achou.
As such the sufferings of the common people are increasing day by day, said the KYKL chairman.
Development has suffered a back lash because of the interference of the underground cadres in contract works, said the Chairman and added that today's pathetic conditions of the roads, the schools, have all put a brake on the road to development.
Talking about the ground reality, Achou said that the scenario is such that today many armed groups based on ethnicity have sprung up all over.
The mushrooming of such groups based on ethnicity has done nothing except add to the mushrooming growth of groups which have come up just to earn money by kidnapping for ransom or to garner some lucrative contract works.
The greater tragedy is when some elements belonging to another ethnic group start to work for such ethnic group, just for the sake of some easy money, observed the KYL chairman.
The Meiteis have been at the receiving end of such groups working for just an ethnic group, observed the outfit.
Touching on the sufferings of the people, the outfit observed that the people have to cope with the armed cadres as well as the security forces, who have been given the right to kill and eliminate.
In fact the situation is such that no one feels safe to venture out of their house, said the chairman further.
In such a situation thinking about the future seems like a distant dream, said Achou and added that there is no peace of mind.
